Abilene, Texas, is rapidly emerging as a hub for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, with significant developments poised to transform both education and industry in the region.
Duos Edge AI’s Educational Initiative
In collaboration with the Region 14 Education Service Center (ESC), Duos Edge AI has deployed a new Edge Data Center (EDC) in Abilene. This facility serves as a local, carrier-neutral colocation center and computing hub, providing enhanced bandwidth, secure data processing, and low-latency AI capabilities. Over 40 school districts and charter schools across an 11-county area, spanning more than 13,000 square miles, stand to benefit from this advancement. The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide in rural and underserved communities, enabling faster access to educational tools, cloud services, and AI-driven applications.
Crusoe’s Industrial Expansion
On the industrial front, Crusoe is developing a new AI factory campus in Abilene, dedicated to supporting large-scale AI workloads for Microsoft. This expansion brings the total projected capacity of the Abilene site to 2.1 gigawatts (GW). The new campus includes two buildings and an on-site 900 MW power plant designed to enhance grid resilience. Each building is engineered for 336 MW of critical IT load, supporting ultra-high-density compute for next-generation GPU architectures. The facility also incorporates Crusoe’s closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling systems for water efficiency. This development is expected to generate significant economic impact for the Abilene region, creating thousands of jobs and increasing tax contributions.
Community Engagement and Future Prospects
To celebrate these advancements, Duos Edge AI has announced a grand opening and community open house of its Abilene Edge facility. The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM CDT at the Region 14 Education Service Center. Community leaders, educators, business partners, elected officials, and regional organizations are invited to tour the facility, meet company leadership, and learn how Duos Edge AI’s modular, AI-ready edge infrastructure supports education, healthcare, businesses, and other mission-critical workloads in underserved markets.
These developments underscore Abilene’s growing prominence in the AI sector, promising to drive innovation, economic growth, and enhanced educational opportunities in the region.
